Fat feet shoes

I've been feeling sorry for myself today. Ever since D fell, things have been stressful. Yesterday, we had several incidents related to bodily fluids occur during the 3 errands I had to get done during his 1 hour of wakeful/fed time between naps. Plus, I was concerned about possible delayed neurological symptoms from the fall. Then, this morning, Dillon proved that he really is sick. So, I spent most of my hands-free time calling the doctor, insurance company, and local (we are out of town) urgent care options. Also, 20 minutes before morning bottle time, I put our only bottle in a microwave sterilization bag out of which it came completely unusable. As I tried to make a mad dash to the drugstore for a bottle, we had more fluid issues that required immediate attention. I was pretty stressed all day.

Then, I realized that I am not the one who fell on my head and the next day fell ill. And, still, I fell apart. But, poor bear is sick and needs me to be together. So, I put me back.

Now, I'm together.

Dillon is getting better.

And, we got a steal of a deal on some fat feet shoes.

Have you ever...

...let your baby fall head first from a counter to a hardwood floor? Or something similar? Help me feel better about myself.

A warning to the world

He is coming to steal the hearts of your fair daughters...

...should they be so lucky.

By the way...

...I cut my hair.

In more interesting news, Dillon got to go to his first Easter egg hunt today. A big thanks to the L family who let the ward terrorize their backyard, and for giving Dillon a diaper when he peed all over the two of us. Ironic, how that doesn't happen for months, but when I am stranded at a party without a car or a diaper bag, it does. Hmmm...

Anyway, it was actually kind of a disaster. What was supposed to be a fun family outing ended up being me, alone, having no idea when Mark would get back, with a 30lb baby who was all too rapidly approaching bedtime and insisted on being held CONSTANTLY. Mark gets called on for church things at the last minute a lot. But, usually, I don't end up stranded when it happens. I'm afraid I didn't handle the whole thing very well. Dillon doesn't understand sustaining Daddy in his church callings, and that sometimes makes it harder for me. Someday, I will be a mature and graceful person that patiently takes everything in stride. But, until then, I console myself with the knowledge and the confidence that I am an AWESOME mom. Awesome.

Look at me here, being an AWESOME mom. (Note: We took 3 family pictures. Dillon and Daddy weren't looking in any of them. We'll try again next week.)

Some happenings

We had a nice week. It was so nice, I wish you could have been here to enjoy it with us.

On Sunday...

I got tired of feeding Dillon his finger foods. He still has no teeth, so he doesn't eat them very quickly. (Unless it is something slippery and soft, like canned peaches, that he can swallow whole, in which case, keep up.) He shows very little improvement in self feeding despite quite a bit of practice. Sometimes he just stares at his hand, as if willing it to do his bidding. And yet, I end up doing his bidding...one Cheerio at a time.

In my frustration, I handed him the whole string cheese. He ate the whole thing, without incident, and has since had success with crackers, apple wedges, and celery.

On Tuesday morning...

Dillon found an empty soda cup that was leftover from Monday night. He spent a good part of the morning playing "Harry Potter" with the straw. He even conjured up some real magic. He is holding the straw in both pictures, but in the second one, you can't see it....aaAAAaaah.

On Tuesday afternoon...

We had a nature lesson. We learned that if you don't plant any seeds, and if
nothing happened last year, you will still get beautiful tulips in your front yard. The spring fairies leave them in the yards of good little boys to welcome them to their first spring. One of my deepest fears is that my children will be too soon, too grounded in reality. Dream, little one, while you still can.

On Friday...

Dillon took ENORMOUS strides. On Thursday, he did a bit of downward dog, but it was pretty weak. He also did a little backward scooting, but it was nothing compared to the progress he made Friday. He got stuck under the bed! This is huge, right? This is the first time he has ever gotten stuck somewhere, because he is mobile enough to GET somewhere! And check out the downward dogs he was doing during "Baby Signing Time"

Also, I bought him a pool. It came in the mail Friday. I couldn't set it up because it was raining. But I was excited, so I introduced the boy to the pool anyway. Having never seen a pool, and therefore, not knowing what a pool is, and having spent the afternoon with what I told him was a pool...well, I'm glad he's not old enough to be confused by all this. For now, all that matters is that he loves to ride his pool.

Shorts

Remember the 70's, when men weren't afraid to show some leg?

We don't. But we dig it.

Once Upon a Child...

...is a used baby stuff store. I took Dillon yesterday because he needs some [24 month] shorts and jammies.

I actually found him something incredibly slimming. It wasn't clothes, though.

Hmmm

I just saw someone walking down the street wearing a puffer coat and gloves. My kid is wearing short-alls and a tee shirt.

General Conference

Dillon just finished watching his second General Conference. He was there for ALL of ALL of the general sessions. (Nap schedule= 9-11 & 1-3; Conference schedule= 11-1 & 3-5; ). He seemed to enjoy it. He particularly liked the choir. And, all in all, I think it's safe to say that he enjoyed this conference...

...a lot more than last conference.
